Ballistic Measures, aka “Birdie,” is a 3-year-old, 16-hand Trakehner mare that I purchased directly from her breeder as an eventing prospect. As she has progressed in her training, however, it has become increasingly clear that Birdie really wants to be a hunter. She has a naturally lovely, flat-kneed trot, a quiet and uncomplicated way of going, and is very easy at the walk, trot, and canter. She is not easily rattled and takes new things in stride. She has also free jumped a bit and showed excellent form.

Birdie is still young and will need to be finished, but she has all the qualities I look for in a young horse. She has no vices, lives outside, is easy to catch and handle, and has exceptional ground manners—she is the type who would happily stand in the cross ties all day. She genuinely loves people and is a pleasure to have around. She had clean flexions this spring, is barefoot, and has been uncomplicated in every way.

I could see her making up a top junior hunter in time and would love to see her developed for that ring!
